Srinagar, Oct 25 (KNO): The iconic Clock Tower (Ghanta Ghar) at Lal Chowk here transformed into a lively cultural hotspot on Saturday as the Department of Handicrafts and Handloom, Kashmir hosted “Know Your Artisan” programme, with drawing hundreds of visitors who turned the city centre into a buzzing festive arena.
The event was graced by senior officials from administration. It celebrated the craftsmanship and creativity of Kashmir’s traditional artisans.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), stalls showcasing papier-mache, copperware, wood carving, sozni embroidery and pashmina weaving lined the open square, while vibrant drapes and cultural displays turned the Clock Tower into a scene of colour and cheer.
“It feels like Lal Chowk has come alive again,” said Nusrat Ahmed, a local visitor from Rajbagh. He said, seeing artisans work live and explain their craft connects us to our roots. It is a beautiful experience.
Another visitor, a college student, said he was amazed to see the diversity of art forms on display. “Usually we see these products in shops, but here you meet the actual hands behind them, the real artists,” he said.
Moreover, artisans too expressed gratitude for the platform. A papier-machie artisan from Srinagar, said such initiatives help them connect directly with customers. “People are appreciating our work and asking questions about how we make these designs. It motivates us to keep the craft alive,” he said—(KNO)
